SkillHub Mastery: Capture and Reuse What Works · Lesson 1 of 6

1. What Is a Skill and Why It Matters

Understand what a skill is and how it replaces the need to repeat instructions in every conversation.

A skill is a written procedure that tells the AI exactly how you want something done — how to structure a report, how to qualify a lead, how to review code. Instead of typing the same instructions every time you start a conversation, you write them once as a skill and the AI follows them whenever they are relevant. Think of it as a reusable checklist you hand to a competent colleague: you explain the job once, and from then on they know how to do it your way.

Skills live in your personal library called SkillHub. From there you can create, edit, delete, activate, deactivate, or pin any skill. Only active skills are offered to the AI — if you deactivate one, it stays saved but the AI won't use it. This is handy for seasonal procedures or drafts you're still refining. When you pin a skill, it gets prioritized in the AI's context, so it's ideal for procedures that should always apply to your work.

Once a skill is active, it works across the tools that support it. In ChatPro, you select skills from the Skills selector in the chat form. In OUPI Studio, you toggle them on with the Skills switch. The AI reads all your active skills and automatically applies the one that matches the task at hand. You don't need to mention the skill by name — the AI figures out which procedure fits. This means your best practices follow you everywhere without extra effort.

You may also see shared skills in your library. These are procedures published by your organization's administrators and made available to everyone. They appear alongside your personal skills but are managed centrally. Your own skills, on the other hand, remain private to your account — no one else can see or modify them.

Tip

A good skill does one job, has a name that says when to use it, lists numbered action steps, and states the expected output. Vague skills like "be professional" have no effect. Operational ones like "structure the answer as: context, options, recommendation" change results immediately.

Try it now

Open SkillHub and create your first skill. Pick a task you repeat often — for example, summarizing meeting notes. Give it a clear name (e.g., "Meeting summary format"), describe when it should be used, and write 3–5 numbered steps with the expected output. Activate it, then test it in ChatPro.

Take this course in OUPI → This exercise is done inside the OUPI platform.
Recap

A skill is a reusable, written procedure stored in SkillHub that the AI follows so you never have to repeat instructions. Activate a skill to make it available to the AI; deactivate it to bench it without losing it; pin it to prioritize it. Skills work in ChatPro and OUPI Studio automatically. Write one job per skill, use numbered steps, and state the expected output — that's what turns vague guidance into consistent results.
