2. Attaching Files and Using Knowledge Bases
Learn to attach documents in any common format, pick files from your storage, and ground the chat's answers in your own indexed knowledge bases with cited sources.
OUPI Chat lets you attach files directly into your conversation so the AI can read, analyze, and work with them. You have three ways to add a file: click the paperclip icon in the chat form, drag and drop the file into the conversation window, or pick an existing file from your personal storage (FileHub). Supported formats include PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, JSON, and images. Once attached, you can ask the chat to summarize, extract data, compare documents, rewrite sections, or anything else. If you attach many files or very large ones, they are automatically processed in a secure sandbox so nothing slows down.
Beyond one-off file attachments, you can ground the chat's answers in an entire collection of your own documents by selecting a knowledge base. A knowledge base is a set of documents you have indexed in OUPI's Knowledge Base section. When you pick one (or several) in the chat form before sending your message, the AI searches through those indexed documents to find relevant information and cites the specific sources it used in its answer. This means you get traceable, evidence-backed responses drawn from your own data — not just the model's general training. Knowledge bases can also be shared with your team inside a workspace, so everyone benefits from the same curated information.
You don't have to choose between attaching a file and using a knowledge base — you can do both at once. For example, attach a new contract and select your company's legal knowledge base so the AI compares the contract against your own policies, with cited sources.
When the chat cites a source from your knowledge base, check the citation to verify the answer. This is especially useful for compliance, research, or any task where traceability matters. If you need even more context, ask the chat to quote the relevant passage directly.
Wondering about costs? File analysis is included in the cost of the message itself — there is no separate charge for attaching a document. Credits are proportional to the tokens exchanged and the model used. For everyday questions and document work, the automatically chosen balanced model keeps costs low. Frontier models on long, document-heavy conversations will cost more, so reserve them for complex tasks.
Open the OUPI Chat, click the paperclip icon, and attach a PDF or Word file. Ask the chat to summarize it. Then go to the Knowledge Base section, find or create a knowledge base, return to the chat, select that knowledge base in the chat form, and ask a question. Notice how the answer now cites your indexed sources.
