OUPI Finance: Reports, Market Data & AI-Driven Analyses · Lesson 5 of 7

5. Exploring Your Spending DNA

Discover your unique spending profile through AI-powered visualization and analysis to identify long-term habits.

Your Spending DNA is a unique, AI-generated profile that maps your long-term spending habits into a visual fingerprint. Rather than just listing transactions or totals, it analyzes patterns across your entire history — recurring categories, seasonal shifts, proportional allocations — and renders them as an intuitive visualization. Think of it as a personality test, but for your wallet. This feature lives under Finance > Spending DNA and works best the more transaction data you have recorded, since the AI draws on your full history to surface meaningful behavioral patterns rather than short-term noise.

To get the most out of Spending DNA, you need a solid transaction history. You can add transactions manually via Finance > Transactions > + New transaction, filling in the amount, category, and date. If you import transactions, the AI auto-categorizes them for you, saving time and ensuring consistency. The richer and more accurately categorized your data, the more precise your Spending DNA profile becomes. Aim for several months of data across diverse categories (groceries, subscriptions, transport, dining, etc.) so the AI can distinguish true habits from one-off expenses.

Spending DNA complements two other AI-powered analysis tools in OUPI Finance:

Financial Health Score — evaluates four dimensions (income vs. expenses, diversification, savings regularity, debt-to-income ratio) and requires at least 10 transactions. It gives you a snapshot of your current financial fitness. • Anomaly Narrator — flags unusual spending by comparing recent activity against the last 3 months and explains deviations in plain language.

While Health Score and Anomaly Narrator focus on the present and recent past, Spending DNA reveals the deeper, long-term behavioral patterns that shape your financial life.

Tip

Keep your categories consistent when adding transactions. The AI uses category data to build your Spending DNA profile, so mixing up similar labels (e.g., "Food" vs. "Groceries") can blur the patterns. Let auto-categorization handle imports whenever possible for cleaner results.

Tip

Be mindful of credit costs when exploring AI features. Advisor queries cost ~2 credits each, Health Score costs 1 credit per calculation, and Anomaly Narrator costs 1 credit per analysis. Basic market data is free. Plan your analyses to get the most value from your credits.

Try it now

Navigate to Finance > Spending DNA in your OUPI sidebar. Review your current spending profile visualization. Identify your top three dominant spending categories and note any patterns that surprise you. If your profile looks sparse, head to Finance > Transactions and ensure you have several months of categorized data recorded.

Recap

Your Spending DNA is a powerful AI-driven visualization of your long-term financial habits, found under Finance > Spending DNA. It works best with rich, consistently categorized transaction data. Combined with the Financial Health Score (current fitness snapshot) and the Anomaly Narrator (unusual spending alerts), it gives you a complete picture — from daily anomalies to deep-rooted patterns. Keep feeding it accurate data, and your spending fingerprint will become an invaluable tool for understanding and improving your financial behavior.
