1. Your First Conversation and How Models Work
Understand how to start a chat, how OUPI automatically selects the best model for each message, and how to manually choose or switch models mid-conversation.
When you open the OUPI Chat, you land on a conversation surface where you can ask questions, write, analyze, translate, summarize, and code — all in one place. To start, simply type your message in the input field at the bottom and press send. Your conversation history is saved in the sidebar on the left, so you can always return to a previous chat. If you'd rather not save a conversation (for one-off or sensitive questions), you can start a temporary chat that won't appear in your history or feed memory.
One of OUPI's most powerful features is automatic model selection. You don't need to know which AI model is best for your question — OUPI picks a suitable one for each message based on what you asked and your plan. After the model answers, a small badge appears on the response showing which model was used. This means a simple everyday question might use a balanced, cost-efficient model, while a complex reasoning task could be routed to a more powerful one — all without you lifting a finger.
Sometimes you have a specific reason to choose a model yourself — perhaps you're working with a very long document, tackling a particularly hard problem, or your organization prefers a certain provider. In that case, use the model selector in the chat form to pick the model you want before sending your message. You can even switch models mid-conversation without losing any of your history. If you're unsure about a response, you can regenerate the last answer with a different model to compare results.
Keep costs in check: let OUPI auto-select for everyday work (it defaults to a balanced model), and manually pick a frontier model only when you hit a genuinely hard turn. Frontier models on long conversations are the most expensive combination.
Made a mistake or want to explore a different angle? Edit any of your previous messages to fork the conversation from that point, or hit regenerate on the last answer — optionally choosing another model. Copy keeps formatting for Word and Docs, and each code block has its own copy button.
Open the OUPI Chat now. Type a simple question (e.g., "What is the capital of Japan?") and send it. Look at the badge on the response to see which model answered. Then open the model selector, choose a different model, and ask a follow-up question. Notice how the badge changes while your conversation history stays intact.
You now know the essentials: type a message to start a conversation, and OUPI automatically picks the best model for each reply (shown by a badge). You can override this choice with the model selector at any time, switch models mid-conversation without losing history, and regenerate answers with a different model. For everyday tasks, let auto-selection keep costs low; reserve manual frontier-model picks for complex challenges.
